Queen of Halloween
I am not happy.
And you know that when the Princess isn't happy, no one is happy. I just barely finished my bowl of Frosty Paws when my mouse told me I had a e-mail message from my friend, Nutmeg. Nutmeg lives in Canada.
I was sad that Nutmeg had to move to such a far northern country and my Gram was sad too. My Gram has been taking care of Miss Nutmeg for a long, long time, so you could say that Nutmeg is one of my Gram's favorite dogs, ever. I like her too, but one thing I wasn't going to miss was the fact that she ALWAYS won the Halloween Costume Contest here in Leesburg. ALWAYS. I never, ever got to win when Nutmeg was in town.
The first year she was a Pumpkin. Once she was SpongeBob. Let me tell you, that girl knows a good costume opportunity when she sees one.
So I figured that if Nutmeg moved to Canada, that would be the last we saw of her. You think? Not!
Last Christmas my Gram flew to Canada and stayed in Nutmeg's new house because her Mom and Dad had to go away. Nutmeg's new home is in Ottawa, and my Gram said that was a nice place to visit, but no one really wants to live there. Not even Nutmeg. Because Nutmeg's parents had the good sense to keep their lovely home in Leesburg, now when they travel, Nutmeg comes and stays here and my Gram takes care of her. Even though she is still stealing my Gram's affections, I forgave her, because I figured that I was safe from The Queen of Halloween if her primary home was out of the country.
Guess what? They obviously celebrate Halloween in the Far North! I thought they just had Moose dressed up as Mounted Policemen, but no. They have Nutmeg. I am never dressing up again. Why bother?

Dear Princess Daisy:
My mom just told me about what you wrote regarding my Halloween costume. I had to write to let you know that being the Queen takes lots of hard work and commitment! It is not easy "squeezing" into some of the clothes my mom and dad want me to wear. I do it for the attention because you know that I am so pretty. Everyone wants to pet me and tell me how cute I am. I am sure that you have the same thing happen to you.
I am in town because your Gram is coming to take care of me. I like all the attention she gives me, but I think I frustrate her too. I like to wake her up at 2 a.m. just because I can. Your Gram does not think it is funny at all to have to go outside at that hour, but I do it because I know she will do whatever I ask of her. That is why I have adopted her as my Gram. She knows how to make me feel like the Queen that I am. Enjoy your Christmas! I am going to be dressed as a Christmas Present!!!
