BOWLING GREEN NEEDS US TOO

I know how many shelters there are in the United States.   Or, at least, my Mom and I are trying to make an educated guess.  Every single day of my life, I am grateful that I did not have to endure this.   But my best brother and my bestest sister, Rusty and Scarlett, were rescued dogs, and we have had many, many dogs before them who we saved.    My old friend Jethro, who passed away on December 6, 2006 was rescued by my Mom from a snowbank in Montana. (in truth, Jethro passed away before I was born in January 2007, but I see his photo every day and my Mom and my 2-legged sis talk about his silliness all of the time)

Someone had dumped him off near the closed Animal Shelter in Whitefish, Montana the Monday before Christmas when the shelter was closed for a week because of the holiday.  Granted, people would have come to work there anyway, but Jethro only weighed maybe two pounds, was about five weeks old and would surely have died in the 40 degree BELOW ZERO weather that fateful day.

Jethro lived to for 15 years with my family.   A true pest to the very end, but we loved him like no other.  He was truly unique.

Because of friend Luke Robinson and his boys, Hudson and Murphy at
2Dogs2000Miles  we have recently learned of a real need in the Bowling Green Shelter in Kentucky.     If you subscribe to Erich Trapp's wonderful daily reports from the 2DOGS crew, then you know how great and full of information Erich's e-mail postings are.

So here is the deal, and this is what Erich sent us to think about.

Important Video From Our Friends At The Bowling Green / Warren County Humane Society – Tonight while surfing Facebook, I came across some information we'd like to share with you. If you'll recall, some time ago Luke volunteered with the Bowling Green / Warren County Humane Society. These people do amazing work rescuing and transporting dogs and cats to new forever homes. Deana Wehr, Rescue/Transport Manager CLICK HERE has posted several videos of the work they do and is appealing to the animal community (that's us!) to help them raise funds for their new transport. Deana writes on Facebook: "Many of you know our shelter works heavily w/ rescues and if we didn't, our euthanasia rate would be 80%. …It is literally LIFE or DEATH."

"Please go to our website www.bgwchs.petfinder.com and watch the video put together by Insight Communications in Bowling Green. The video speaks for itself! There is a chip-in for donations (next to the video) and at the end of the video itself are 3 other ways to donate to this cause. Donating to this cause will save THOUSANDS of animals. NO donation is too small, if you can donate $5 that money will help us reach our goal. HELP US HELP THOSE WHO CAN NOT HELP THEMSELVES."

FIND YOUR MOUSE AND CLICK HERE RIGHT AWAY: URGENTThese folks work tirelessly to find homes for animals in their care and they have an excellent track record. But, as you can imagine, it takes more than hard work – it takes money. But, like Deana says, even 5 or 10 dollars will help them. We know times are tight all around, but if you can spare them some cash, we know it will go for a worthy cause. The Bowling Green / Warren County Humane Society is located at: 1925 Louisville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42102. PO Box 1456 Phone: 270-842-8572. Thanks for any help you can offer, and please feel free to cross-post widely!

So as my friend and the one who encourages me daily to keep on blogging, Erich, says.   Only a few dollars from so many of us CAN make a difference.

My Mom says if you can get through the Sara McLaughlin song without crying, you are stronger than she is.  I hate to see my Mom crying.   PLEASE HELP.

Love and Licks,

Bob
................ and if you have never been in a shelter, you are blessed
.......................  if you have been in a shelter and now have a forever home, you are DOUBLE blessed

btw..... OF COURSE, the photo of my friend Jethro, came from our wonderful Bev Hollis at CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE PICTURES OF JETHRO (MEMORIALS)  This photo of Jethro was taken only two days before he ran off to The Rainbow Bridge to be with his best friend, Marvin.
