The Day After
I am so glad the the BIG EVENT, An Evening with Tracie Hotchner, is all over and perhaps once My Mom and My Sis have recovered, I'll be able to get more news out of them as to how everything went, but I have it on good authority that the event was an astounding success and that everyone there loved Ms. Auntie Tracie Hotchner and was happy that they had been there.
It is times like this that I truly wish I had some thumbs because I know that I could figure out the typing on the keyboard thingy and then wouldn't have to depend on Mom to help me with my Blogging Business. Unfortunately, I don't see a pair of opposible thumbs in my future. Oh Well.
Lot of people came last night and there was much talking and meeting with the special vendors who came to show off their work and services, and lots of eating of Fractured Prune donuts and drinking of fresh squeezed lemondaide made my "bro" Pat, who is married to Lydia and who is perhaps the finest cooking person in the entire world.
There was a big raffle of many wonderful things and in the next few days, I am going to get it together (when Mom is awake) and tell you all about the gifts and the vendors and the goody bags and everything. Today, my Mom says we are in "cut and paste mode".....whatever that is meaning.
I got a wonderful e-mail from Auntie Tracie this morning and here is what she had to say about last night:
Dear Bob
It's really a cryin' shame that you weren't allowed to come to the "Tracie's truth-telling about pet food" talk last night because your Mom and Sis put on an evening that would have had you bursting your buttons - if you had any- with pride at the human part of your family. Everything and the Dog gave me the highlight of my professional career by surrounding me with all the fine dog-loving folks in the area and then handing me a microphone to share with them all that I've learned and figured out over the past 7 years investigating what we put in the mouths of our four-legged family members.
I know this doesn't matter as much to you, a super-picky eater, as maybe a three-day-old frog to roll on, but I can tell you that the people your Mom Patti and your sis Lydia know in your part of Virginia cared enough to come all the way out to hear me blab and they sat so quietly listening and then seemed really happy afterwards (and not just because of the really cool goody doggy bags that your ladies stuffed for days!)
It made me want to move here and be around such nice people - and people with such wonderful dog-oriented businesses - and I don't think I thanked Lydia and Patti enough for creating such a great opportunity for me to get the message out. Meeting your own personal photgrapher Bev Hollis was pretty cool since I've drooled over many of her photos that you have shared on your blog - I've often wondered how I could ever trick her into coming up to Vermont where I live so she could take some swell pix of my pack.
And I'll tell you what else I love about Leesburg - your vet, Dr.Mike Strickland. I wish I had a vet who cared as much and who does as much as he does. He is also a man of great courage, in case you, Brave Pitbull Bob didn't know that. Dr.Mike stood up after my talk and told me some things he thought which contradicted things I had said and I really appreciated his perspective and especially admired his cajones for speaking up against your Pal, Not-So-Easy-to-Contradict Tracie. We wound up talking for ages by ourselves about many other things, especially Lyme disease prevention about which he knows a ton - and I really mean it when I say I wish I could go to the Leesburg vet Clinic with my own dogs because they'd get the very best caring care. So when you're dreading going to the doctor and getting a shot in the butt, be braver and remember that your Auntie Tracie thinks you're darned lucky to have Dr. Strickland on the other end of the Lyme vaccination!
I do hope you'll take care of Lily today and give the ladies a day off and make your own breakfast because they really deserve a rest after the shingdig they put on yesterday. Just rummage in a leftover doggy bag and eat some Halo Liv-a-Little dried chicken treats"
So that is my Auntie Tracie for you. I just love her and just imagine if I ever got to meet with her? Yesterday during the day she was visiting a friend who lives not far from here in The Plains, and then she had to go to the talk and there wasn't time to meet me in person. But I love her anyway and someday I'll be able to lick her little face.
I told Ms. Tracie that she needs to move here to Northern Virginia where we have such wonderful dogma, karma and catma. I'm sure we could find her a place and she can work with Dr. Mike on his new project which is a state of the art Vet Practice coming soon in Leesburg. This is something Dr. Mike has been working his entire life towards. And if Ms. Tracie lived here, I could have sleep-overs with her and I could maybe help her with her writing business. Don't you think this is a wonderful idea?
I told Tracie that if she came here, than she and my Mom and Dr. Mike could work together to create a Dog Chapel in our very own Leesburg. Can you just imagine how wonderful that would be? Have you ever been to The Dog Chapel in Vermont which was built by the wonderful artist Mr. Stephen Huneck? You can purchase this amazing book on Amazon.Com which everyone knows about, and you can look inside the book and see how wonderful the Chapel is.

This is what the people at Amazon.Com have to say about it:
"In gloriously exuberant woodcuts and sweetly charming text, artist and author Stephen Huneck tells the story of The Dog Chapel, the real-life, complete-with-a-steeple chapel he built on a hill in Vermont to celebrate the love and friendship we enjoy from our canine friends. After an introduction in which he explains how he came to build the dog chapel, Huneck provides photos of its serene, doggy-friendly interior--including pews carved with dog images for the humans, and comfy mats and doggy doors for four-legged visitors. The heart of the book offers witty illustrations and touching "bites" of wisdom for dog lovers of all ages: "To bring your dog joy, put on your jacket and grab a leash!" and "You can trust a dog with your life... but not with your lunch." At the back of the book a tear-out frame is included, and readers are invited to send their dog photo and messages to the chapel for inclusion in its Remembrance Wall. Huneck dedicates the book to his beloved, now departed black Lab Sally, the "star" of three previous books in which she ventured to the beach, to the mountains, and to a farm. --Judy Fireman "
Someday, my Mom and my sister have promised me that we will have a ROAD TRIP, and we will go to Maine and to Vermont. We will go to the ocean and eat lobsters and go to the Dog Chapel and talk about Princess Daisy.
So we think that our new project needs to be to work with Dr. Mike and build us a chapel right here...... like Sidney Poiter in Lillies of the Field. We will build us a "chapel". Isn't that a great idea? My Mom lets me watch that movie whenever it comes on our television and we sing along with the Build Us a Chapel Song.
If you would like to see a lot more about Mr. Stephen Hunek and his work, you can travel to his very own place in cyberspace at Dog Mountain You can see all of his wonderful work and really learn a lot about The Dog Chapel and see how he is helping all sorts of 4-legs with his wonderful art.
This is what the real chapel looks like in real life ----

And this is what Mr. Stephen said about building it.
" I built the chapel on Dog Mountain, our mountain-top farm in St. Johnsbury. I have styled it in the manner of a small village church built in Vermont around 1820. It is important to me that the chapel looks like it belongs with its setting of rolling mountains and pasture. The white steeple points up to the heavens, and on the top is a Lab with wings that turns in the wind and proclaims this place has a special affinity with dogs.

When you visit us, walk the land and enjoy the spectacular views yourself. This is a very private spot. Being on the end of a dead-end road where all land on both sides of the road are part of Dog Mountain. The 400 acre mountain-top farm is rich with wild life and trout filled ponds. The sculpture garden in front of the chapel is wonderful to exhibit my artwork in such a breathtaking setting. I have created a beautiful light-filled gallery, where of course, dogs are always welcome. There will always be a good supply of treats on hand, a small gesture to thank dogs for all they give us and for connecting us to nature, something that is getting more difficult in our high tech, paved over world. Everyone is welcome at Dog Mountain, but it is my hope that dog owners will bring their dogs with them. It is a wonderful experience to go on a walk with your dog through an old forest, you will see how the dog becomes fully alert, your guide and protector. There they have no doubt who is the leader." |
So that is my new plan. I am going to send this Blogging to Dr. Mike Strickland and to Miss Tracie and to Mr. Stephen and ask them if they don't think that Bob has a good idea, yet again. And I am certain that Mr. Stephen's dog Sally, to who he has dedicated his working, is now at The Bridge with our Princess Daisy and they are talking and saying something like, "that Bob isn't really as stupid as we said he was".......HA.
This is Mr. Stephen's newest project of his own, and when you go visit his special Dog Mountain, you can read all about Lend a Helping Hand
So that it is from me, Bob, for Saturday. I'm ready for a run in the woods, a big drink of water, have a Halo, Liv-a-Little Chicken Treat and a nap.
Love and Licks,
Bob
............ready to Build a Chapel

Lydia & Patti - thank you for a wonderful event last night and all the good works you do. I loved Tracie Hotchner - I went out today and bought Halo cat food. I could barely get the bag and can open on the counter - my cat jumped up and started eating before I could put the bowl on the floor! He has never jumped up on my counter in 10 years of life! I think he was craving the pure ingredients.
Again, thanks for last night. Love to Lily, Bob, Rusty, & Scarlet (did I forget anyone?) - Can't wait to meet Willowbee!
Carolyn
