Scenes from The Surgical Ward
Let's begin with the TWO legged side of the family, starting with Omi. As you all know, my Grammie/Omi fell down a hill on Mother's Day and broke her leg in two places. She had to have surgery on her poor limb and that took place on the 16th of May, so she is on the road to recovery. In a manner of speaking. My Mom says that Omi is just like her and that it is hard for someone who is used to being very busy to sit around all day and not work.
Oh, really! Mom? Did you say that? I truly don't think you have any trouble at all laying on the couch and watching back to back to back episodes of Law & Order.
Then there is my sis, Lydia, who once again has managed to outbreak herself with poison ivy. I have no idea why she cannot avoid this stuff, but she has some story about how it gets on us dogs and then gets transferred to her.
Because I know nothing about Poison Ivy and you KNOW I like to know everything, I asked my MP (Mouse Person) to take me to Wikipedia so we can look up Poison Ivy

In this photo, the Poison Ivy is on the right and Boxelder is on the left. You must try not to confuse the two of them.
Also in Wikipedia, I learned some silly rhymes that will help you stay out of the PoisonPlant that is growing all around our area (and lots of other areas too, it would seem).
- "Leaves of three, let it be."
- "Hairy vine, no friend of mine."
- "Berries white, run in fright" and "Berries white, danger in sight."
- "Longer middle stem, stay away from them."
- "Red leaflets in the spring, it's a dangerous thing."
- "Side leaflets like mittens, will itch like the dickens."
- "If butterflies land there, don't put your hand there."
So I'm telling Lydia about all these helpful rhymes, but you know what? I bet she will still wind up itching and scratching and complaining because she is miserable. And guess what else? Did you know that people who are sensitive to poison ivy can also experience a similar rash from mangoes. Mangoes are in the same family (Anacardiaceae) as poison ivy; the sap of the mango tree and skin of mangoes has a chemical compound similar to urushiol.
So now I am wondering. What if all this time she has been itching from eating mangoes and just doesn't know about it? But just in case, I also found her a HowTo Video so she can watch this rather silly young man act like an air-line flight attendant and demonstrate Everything you need to Know to Avoid Poison Ivy (or Not)
So that is the scoop on Omi and my SIs. My Mom still has her shingle/nerves and is still walking around like Frankenstein. You know, that sort of wierd lurching step?
As to the FOUR-Legged invalids.
WillowBee is doing wonderfully well after surgery on her foot to repair the very, very deep cut on his little toe. She has very cute little sox to wear as booties so her surgery place does not get dirty. Frankly, I see absolutely no difference in Bee's behaviour before or after cut paw. She has absolutely no intention of letting something like paw surgery keep her down.
And then there is Lily. I have never seen a more pathetic dog in my whole two plus years of being a dog myself.

She has pretty much not moved from our couch since she got home from having her female particles removed. Well, except to eat. Or to move to the bed from the couch in order to rest up from her hard day of resting on the couch. Frankly, I don't remember being this pathetic when I lost my Boy Parts. Lily said that is an entirely different procedure all together and that it was nothing like the pain and suffering she is enduring.
Frankly, I think our Lily is becomming more like The Princess Daisy with every passing day.
So, that is the news on our medical front.
I am quite healthy, thank you,
BOB

I cleaned out the rose garden last fortnight and was covered in what looked like poison ivy/oak welts. After a week of suffering, the doctor told me that the virginia creeper that I cleared out might have been the culprit, and put me on prednisone. It's no fun...
Did you and WillowBee get the small parcel I sent?
Yes, Ms. Phoebe we did get our package and we love them! I can't go to sleep anymore unless I can squeak on my ball for at least ten minutes lying on the foot of Mom's Bed.
We have Virginia Creeper here too. It is awful
We love you.

Hi there, poison ivy can sure be a nasty thing. I noticed that you have a link to Best Friends Animal Society. My wife and I have a small pet supply business and we also like to help the animal community by donating a portion of our profits to a number of animal shelters and rescues. We were wondering if you would put a link to our site on your home page, our site is called www.dogkennelscenter.com. In exchange for linking to our site, we would like to offer you a Neighborhood Watch for Pets Kit. Check us out and see what you think, and if this interests you, please email me at patrickjsedivy@gmail.com. Thanks, Patrick Sedivy.
Thanks for your comment and I'll tell my Mom about your web-site. We'll talk (or bark) more later.

Bob - Thanks for the update on all of your patients! You sound like you've got your hands full, mister. But, I think you should go easy on your Mom. If she *wants* to lie on the couch and watch back-to-back episodes of any show, but especially Law & Order, I think it is okay. Ya know, I once watched 6 hours of The Dog Whisperer in a row on a Dog Whisperer Marathon weekend . . . It *can* be kind of an addiction, so just let me know if she begins to develop one to Law & Order and we'll do an Intervention on her. Of course, that's a great show to watch hours of back-to-back as well . . .
Your friend,
Melinda
Thanks, Miss Melinda. I will watch for tell-tale signs. You know? Getting up and turning on TV before breakfast to see who has a marathon that week-end, laying on couch in just the perfect position to reach the remote, glazed eyes, falling asleep to the theme music, etc.
I don't need a mental patient on my hands together with all of my physical patients. I will give KUDOS to my Omi however, in that she just did three nights worth of overnight stays ---- H.T. (her hubby) did help a little, but she did the sleeping with the doggies which as you know is most important. Omi says pretty soon she is going to work for My Squeaky Ball knitting by the piece. Do you know what that means? Does it involve me? Do you have a Squeaky Ball for your pup? If not. Don't wait. Order Now. My very favorite toy in the entire known universe.
Love and Licks
Bob - Boo (don't tell about my nick-name.)
