Happy Dad's Day

It seems like ages and ages since I have been allowed Blogging Privileges.   Not that I have been BAD, you understand.    I try never to be bad because it just isn't worth it.    But sometimes when we are coming up on a busy time of the year - and all the Family Holidays are important when you are us, Everything & The Dog........... and then my Mom gets caught up in working like a crazy woman and I get shoved to the back of the burning stove.    Or burners on the back.  Or whatever it is called when you are not the most important thing in the world.

I try and try to explain to my Mom that I have important work to do.   I am a very important Reporting PitBull Extra Ordinary and Boy Bloginator and I have people waiting to hear important things that come from my brain.     I work very, very hard at thinking up things to Blog about that are not silliness and I have a lot of friends.   So it doesn't seem fair, does it, when I am trying so hard to do a good job and no one cares to help me with my working.

It would be very nice if you sent some comments so that my Mom and my Sister would understand a little better that I am a critical cog in the wheel around here.   Thanks.

So.

Today is Father's Day, and I want to wish all of my 2-leg friends who are FATHERS a happy, happy day.   And of course, to all of my 4-legged friends who are Father's too.     I may have told you that our WillowBee is the daughter of our neighbor, Willie, The Black Lab, and so since Willie is right next door, she wandered down the road this morning and took her Dad a very nice Chewie and a card too.    It is doubtful that Willie will be able to read the card without help from his own 2-legged Dad, but I am certain he has absolutely no doubt as to what to do with the Chewie.
Here is the Bee, with her own chew toy...... no Dad could be prouder of a daughter who looked like this, now could they?

You will remember that on Mother's Day, I had my Mouse Person take me out to my friends at Wikipedia and found out some interesting facts about Mom's Day.   Therefore, it seems only fair that I enlighten all of us about Dad's Day.

Per Wikipedia, this is what I learned:

Father's Day is a day honoring fathers, celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 52 of the world's countries and on other days elsewhere. It complements Mother's Day, the celebration honoring mothers.

Fortunately for all of us, there was much more, because if this was all that Wikipedia had to say about Father's Day, I would be terribly disappointed, since all of those facts, I could have figured out on my own.   HA.    But there is more.

Father's Day is a celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting, and to honour and commemorate fathers and forefathers. Father's Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, special dinners to fathers, and family-oriented activities.

The first observance of Father's Day is believed to have been held on July 5, 1908 in a church located in Fairmont, West Virginia, by Dr. Robert Webb of West Virginia at the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South of Fairmont.[1] [2] The church still exists under the name of Central United Methodist Church.

Isn't it interesting about West Virginia?   I think I remember that West Virginia had something to do with Mother's Day observing too, so I guess that means that being a parent in West Virginia is an important thing.  But here is something interesting that I think is really unfair:

It took many years to make the holiday official. In spite of support from the YWCA, the YMCA and churches, it ran the risk of disappearing from the calendar.[4] Where Mother's Day was met with enthusiasm, Father's Day was met with laughter.[4] The holiday was gathering attention slowly, but for the wrong reasons. It was the target of much satire, parody and derision, including jokes from the local newspaper Spokesman-Review.[4] Many people saw it as just the first step in filling the calendar with mindless promotions like "Grandparents' Day", "Professional Secretaries' Day", etc., all the way down to "National Clean Your Desk Day."[4]

A bill was introduced in 1913,[5] US President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea in 1924,and a national committee was formed in the 1930s by trade groups in order to legitimize the holiday.[6] It was made a federal holiday when President Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation in 1966.

That is just so unfair don't you think?   Not cause I'm a boy, but just because it is.    Father's are certainly as important as Mom's in many respects because there would be no babies (2 or 4-legged) without both of the parents.  I'm certainly happy for all the Father's in the world today who we can celebrate and thank for being around.

My own Dad, Oalie, passed away not too long after I was born and that makes me very, very sad.  I never really got to know him, cause I moved away to come and live in Virginia instead of Maine where I was born.   That's why I am so happy for our WillowBee that she will be able to really get to know Willie.     It has been noted around our home that WillowBee is the spitting image of Willie, in looks and in personality.      All of Bee's other siblings (3 girls and a boy) seem to take after their Mom, Abby.   Mr. Jim who is Willie's 2-leg Dad is thankful that Willow did not move far away and that he can see her whenever he wants to.

Please tell all of the important father's in your life that you are Happy That  They are Who They Are, make them a special dinner (if you have 2-legs and thumbs)  and give them lots of Love and Licks otherwise.

BOB

To Daisy and Bob's humans: This is crazy. You really need to get your priorities straight. Just because animals don't have opposing thumbs and can't type worth a darn, does not mean they don't have anything to say. Apparently dogs aren't as good at mind control as capybaras so you'll just need to be more thoughtful.

Hey my little (or big) Capybara Friend

Thanks for making a comment that yes, has seemed to have some affect around her.    I told my Mom and my Sister that I needed a promotion to Vice President of Public Relations.   They are thinking about it.
