My Cousin Smurf is a Hero
I'm sure you all remember my Cousin - Smurf? Remember ---- he ate some rubber parts from his Kong and they didn't come out very well? He had to have surgery to get the pieces out of his tummy but he says he won't ever do that again.Smurf, like me, believes that we PitBulls need to contribute to society. And one of the best ways for a PitBull to give back is to give blood. I know, I know. It is yucky, but here is a letter I got from my Cuz today. I'm so proud of him.
Dear Cousin Bob,
How have you been, my cousin? Well after my exciting adventure with my surgery and staples, I decided I wanted to do something good for dogkind. So, last week, my mom took me to a wonderful place with smells of SOOO many other dogs, and a really nice guy cuddled with me on a table. Then they put a needle in my neck (which hurt a little bit, but I'm a pitbull, so I was brave and didn't cry), and they took some of my blood and put it into a bag. The nice lady vet said that they would keep my blood someplace safe until another dog needed it, like in surgery or something. Isn't that what happened to you when you were just a little squirt? Oh and guess what? After they let me down from the table I got lots of peanut butter and a few milkbone treats. What a great day!
My mom said I was very brave, and that we'll be going back to that place around every 6 weeks so I can give them some more of my wonderful superpower blood. She said was a lifesaver dog now! Don't you think that sounds like a great job to have? My mom wants me to do something special, since I'm a pitbull and all, and I am WAAAAYYYY too excited and wiggly to be a therapy dog, so she thought this might be a good match.
Anyway, my mom wanted me to write to you about my adventure, and ask if you'd want to share my story with your millions of followers in your super reporting blog. She said you should also mention the group that sponsored my blood donation, and suggest that other dogs might want to sign up to be lifesaver dogs too! They are called Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank. My mouse person is very tired right now, but I think the place he took me to before he fell asleep is www.evbb.com
Thank you very much for sharing this information with you friends and followers! Oh, and attached is a photo of me sleeping in the sun (I have a very rough life), just in case you forgot what I looked like...
Love and licks,
Cousin SMURF
I was rushed to Blue Ridge Vet and they got their personal donor dog - boxer, girlie ---- to give me her own blood. Twice. Two full transfusions and a week of terror, and a month of Vitamin K and I pulled through. So I believe in giving back! Yep.
In fact, I have an appointment on September 8th to give my blood to the bag. I'm a little scared cause it's my first time, but Mom says we are taking my own pillow and our own super crunchy peanut butter and that's comforting. I say... if Smurf can do it, so can I.

Love and Licks to you too, Cousin Smurf
Bob
