August 12: Adopt a Less Than Adorable Pet Day

Thanks to my friend on Twitter @stevegrimes,   I have found that today, August 12, 2009 is Adopt a Less Than Adorable Pet Day.

I did not know about this day (and you know how I like to report on sort of unknown facts - darn.  I've been scooped), but PetFinder took an informal survey, asking shelters what factors make it hard to get an animal adopted out. Topping the list at 30% is elderly pets, followed by pets with medical conditions, pets that are victims of breed prejudice (think pit bull or black cats), shy pets and pets that need to be an only pet.

Obviously I am all for the breed prejudice part of this report, because, you know how mad that sort of stuff makes me.

Here is some information from them, in case your Mouse can't be found.

I'm going to spend some extra time with my Mouse this morning (or maybe this afternoon) and see what I can do to help my friends at Petfinder.Com

However.   Here is one PERSONAL FRIEND of ours, who needs some help quickly.  Her name is Morgan and she lives in Lehigh Valley, in the State of Pennsylvania.

Miss Morgan looks a little grumpy in this photo, and in truth, sometimes she is.   She is totally sweet and loving with her Mom, but she would be best if she had a home by herself with no other animals and with no children.    It isn't that Morgan isn't smart and can't learn to be a bit kinder, but she was so used to being an "only child" until she got a two-legged brother.   Then she moved from her home in Leesburg, where my Mom took care of her, and moved to Pennsylvania, and now, sadly her Mom and Dad feel it is better if they live apart.        Miss Morgan is desperate for a new home with someone very special who can love her like her old Mom does and maybe send her old Mom some pictures of her and a letter now and then.

The entire time my Mom took care of Miss Morgan, she never had any problem with her at all.  Morgan has wonderful leash manners and likes to go on long walks in the woods and hike around.    She would never even think about having an accident in the home and other than a little tummy trouble from time to time she is in good health.

Celebrate Today.  August 12.   Adopt Morgan    A Little Less Than Totally Desireable, Because Sometimes she is a Grump.    Not often However.

If you want some more information on Morgan, just let me know and I'll arrange it.

Love and Licks,
