TWO THOUSAND THANK YOUS!
We Came. We Barked. We Kicked Some Caucus.
When I blogged about our big walk on DC which took place on Friday, September 18, 2009, I didn't really have the time and space to start in with a list of Thanks to all the wonderful people in our area (and some from other parts), who helped my Sister, Lydia and my Mom to put together all of the events that took place here in Loudoun County, Virginia while 2 Dogs 2000 Miles were staying with us.
And so, that is what I want to do now. Start saying our thanks, and I'm hoping not to leave anything out!
My problem is I don't know how to list everyone so no one will get their feelings hurt cause they were not named first! So I am just going to apologize right now for whoever is first, second, third, etc. The order on the list is NOT important, cause we couldn't have done any of this without any of the people who helped, wether they are number one or number one hundred, or did a very big thing or a very small thing. None of that matters because the end result was that we all got together and did our part in working with Mr. Luke, Huds and Murph.
The Honest Kitchen
Company co-founder, Mother Hen and CEO. Lucy started The Honest Kitchen in her own beach cottage kitchen in 2002. (read more about Our History) Lucy is guardian to Willow and Taro, two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Indian, a mischievous rescued Coonhound. In addition to the dogs, she also cares for two young daughters, a former racehorse, an elderly pony and a husband.
All of the food that is eaten by MURPHY since the starting of the trip have been donated to him by The Honest Kitchen. Murphy is very particular and that is what he wants to eat. Spot's Stew from Halo is the favorite of HUDSON, so the wonderful people at Halo, donate all of Hudsy's food.
Halo, Purely for Pets
Halo, is endorsed by Ellen DeGeneres (who Hudson really, really wants to dance with, BTW) and in fact, Ms. Ellen is part owner of the company because she decided that this food was very close to being perfect.
In 1986, Andi Brown launched Halo, Purely for Pets to help caring, conscious pet owners better understand how vital a role nutrition plays in their pet’s health and vitality. Since Halo’s inception, Andi has become an active advocate for natural ingredients in the world of pet care products. She recently published her first book, The Whole Pet Diet: Eight Weeks to Great Health for Dogs and Cats (Ten Speed Press).
At Halo, they believe nutrition is the single most important factor in the quality of your pet’s life. With it, good health follows.
So because an army moves on it's stomach (that's what Mom says is the "old saying"), I decided to list The Honest Kitchen and Halo as my first two big thank-you's.
The Honest Kitchen sent us samples of Thrive, Verve and Preference so that we could hand them out to folks attending our various events, and Halo sent 1000 (yep... that's the right number) samples of Spot's Stew (kibble). Between them, THK and Halo were able to help us introduce their fine products to a lot of doggies who didn't know about it. Yahoo!
And what good is dinner if you can't have desert first? And of course, our very favorite biscuit company is Wagatha's. Wonderful Wagatha's are totally organic treats made in the fine State of Vermont (which is also where our friend Ms. Tracie Hotchner lives)
When our Princess Daisy was so sick from her heart tumor, sometimes Wagatha's was all she wanted to eat. We didn't care if she a bowl full of them for her dinner, cause we knew they would provide good food for her in spite of being "treats".
Wagatha's Gourmet Organic Dog Treats
"Wagatha's is a company dedicated to celebrating the relationship of people and their four-legged friends… yes, that’s right… admit it… our dogs are the center of our universe …. There is little we wouldn’t do for their love and affection.
To that end, we have created Wagatha's... gourmet organic dog treats.
Our gourmet dog treats are 100% certified organic, kosher, and lovingly made in the beautiful state of Vermont. We hope you enjoy our site and that your best friend enjoys our premium organic dog treats."

Now let's talk about some wonderful, wonderful people who helped feed Mr. Luke and Mama G (Ms. Ginger) while they were around our part of the woods.
Pat Lewsen or Mr. Pat as I call him, is married to my "sis" Lydia and between them we have a pretty amazing company in Everything & The Dog! You all probably know that we take care of animals, but did you know that Mr. Pat is a gourmet chef and makes wonderful dinners for 2-leg clients? And can give you a cooking class in your house too? Well that is the truth, and without him, my Mom and my "sis" would probably go hungry on a regular basis.
So the very first night Mr. Luke joined us here in Leesburg, Virginia, was September 7th, and Mr. Pat made the most amazing dinner and we invited some friends to come join us to celebrate Mr. Luke's arrival.
It was so yummy that Mom came back to our house groaning from all the delightful dinner. Mr. Luke is a pretty fine cooker himself but can't keep up with Mr. Pat in that department.
Mr. Luke stayed at our home for his first few days, and then went off to stay with Theresa Fairbanks, who is one of our wonder sitter's with Everything & The Dog . In a few days we sent him on to stay with Doug & Barbara Arnold, who are clients of ours, and Mr. Luke and Ms. Barbara hit it off big, cause Ms. Barbara is a member of Loudoun County Master Gardeners and Mr. Luke is very interested in gardening (or he would be, if he wasn't walkin' so much ---- HA).

If you would like to take a virtual tour of the Loudoun County Demo Garden (in case you have been walkin' a lot and are tired), just ask your Mouse Person to fly you over there by clicking on the link above.
Then after The Arnolds, Mr. Luke went on to stay with another client, Ms. Katie McAuliffe (who is the Mom to Oakmont, one of our favorite pups), and then finally stayed with Troy and Caren Smith for a few days in Ashburn. Ms. Caren also works with us here at Everything & The Dog so you can see that we really put our sitters and our clients to good works with Mr. Luke and Ms. Ginger.
AND.............WE HAD SOME BIG EVENTS AND SOME SMALL EVENTS, BUT ALL WERE WONDERFUL EVENTS.
We had a Candlelight Vigil and a Memorial Tree Planting at our Leesburg Dog Park which is at Olde Izaak Walton Park. That was on Tuesday, September 8th and was pretty wonderful and pretty emotional too. THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE UP LEESBURG DOGS, Friends of The DogPark --- Mary Harper, Sandy Kane, Cathy Chianese - to name only a few.
Then Lydia took Mr. Luke to have dinner with her Northern Virginia Professional Pet Sitters Network group on Wednesday night. If you are needing a pet sitter or dog walker and we cannot be of service to you, then please go and visit the NOVA Network for some helping hands (or paws).

Next we had our Dog Swim at the Symington Aquatic Center of Ida Lee Park and you can read all about that by checking out my blogging from that day Mr. Luke couldn't stay there very long, cause next he was off to Bark n' Bubbles in Ashburn for a Charity Dog Wash. To give you a preview of that event, you can check out another Blog entry of mine which was reposted by my friends at Dogtime.Com, and you can see pictures and the full story of the event on that day.
I can't resist reposting this picture of Ms. Pam Ahart, one of the owners of Bark n' Bubbles with Murphy, after his bath.
After that exciting day, Mr. Luke and da' Boys were off to Arlington to Dogma Bakery to attend the 2009 Wag'N The Cure event. You can go and read all about that great day at this Dogtime.Com link This is a great piece of reporting cause there are lots of questions and answers about Canine Cancer and you need to read up on this in addition to learning much more about Hudson, Murphy and Mr. Luke
What next?
Our friends at The LIfe Centre in Leesburg had a nice Meeting & Greeting event with Luke on Monday the 14th and that was the day that Mama G arrived, so she got to go and meet the great docs and clients who came to see Mr. Luke and da' Boys that evening. Then there were meetings with The Parks Department in Washington DC to finalize plans for the big day, and a Meet & Greet event at Friendship Hospital for Animals on the evening of the 17th.
Next --- The Big Day, our Canine Cancer Caucus Walking, and finally (and now we are pooped) an amazing event at DogGone Natural in Ashburn

So let's see. Who have I left out? Oh my, my head is spinning right now, so I'm sure there were some others that I should mention.
The great people at ABC and at FOX-5, did news stories about Mr. Luke and had reporters and cameramen at The Washington DC Walk. You can read the stories and see the videos by clicking your Mouse's tail and going to visit them at Fox News on the Web and ABC- Channel 7
And then.
A Very Special Huge Hug and Thank You to our wonderful friend, Ms. Kate Bland of Wrapped in Kindness. Ms. Kate stepped in at the final hour and organized our news and press releases and we know she was responsible for having the news teams, on the job.
Oh and wait! Water, Water, Water. A Big THANK YOU to Costco, Leesburg and to their general manager, Mr. Billy Wallace and Mr. Sergio Vitela, the Asst. GM of Operations, from Store 337 Costco donated SIX CASES of their Kirkland Signature Water so we could all stay hydrated during our long walking.
And for overall help, support and hugs when we needed them, thank you thank you to our true friend, Diane Ward. Diane is the brains and beauty behind Scooby North America and you can read more about her in the next few days on our Blogging.
Well that is it in my Thanking Department. I know I did forget some people and I am sorry for that. There were just too many for one poor little PitBull to remember about. Even though I am a reporter Extra Ordinary, remember, I do not have opposable thumbs, so my note taking on the spot is often compromised.
Love and Licks and Puppy Up!
Bob
