Bob, The Cowardly PitBull
It's been a week since my last Blogging, and I am really sorry, but I did have a good excuse.
Last Thursday, which was the first day of October, I had an appointment to give away some of my blood to the very fine people with EVBB which is the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank For a couple of days before the appointment, I was too nervous to Blog, and then after the big day, I was too ashamed.
You see, I am a coward. I chickened out and at the last moment, I just couldn't lay still.
I was O.K. when I got to Blue Ridge Vet which was where the donation place was this time, and I was fine until they shut the door of the little room, and then I just sort of fell apart. My ears turned bright pink inside (always a sign that I am getting stressed) and then my lips turned pink and then - and this hasn't happened before, - the white on my chest got all pink and red and blotchy and oh boy. That was the end of my bravery.
I like all of the people very much, and I tried to get on the table and lay still, but I was shaking so badly that everyone was worried about me. We don't want this to be an unpleasant experience, after all. I kept thinking about all of the brave dogs that I know about who give their blood away on a regular basis and what a great cause it is and how wonderful everyone at the Blood Bank treats me, but I had to slink away.
Mom said it took several hours before my color came back to normal.
Oh, the shame of it.
But, I am not a quitter, you know. I have re-scheduled a donation date for November and I am going to try it once again. Mom thinks it is just the brand of Peanut Butter available and that we will bring our own. I hope that's it.
Love,
Bob

Bob,
I don't think you're a coward. Just sensitive, like me. I probably would have fainted...

Hi Bob,
You are NOT a coward, you tried and that is the important thing. My dog, TeddyBear, was only able to give blood one time so far. He tried it another time but there was a storm happening and he was too scared and shaking due to the thunder to give any that day. His next visit had to be cancelled as I was too sick to take him but, like you, he is going to try again in November. I will let you know how he does and you let me know how you do.
You are a brave boy just for trying.

Bob, sometimes when we think we're cowardly, it's because we have perceived some type of risk or danger. Who knows. Maybe there was a reason why Oct. 1 was the wrong day for you. But I bet that the Nov. date will be completely different!

Oh, Bob, you poor thing! It's okay, buddy! No one wants you to be nervous like that. I think you are actually very brave to have already rescheduled your donation. Big doggy hugs to you and your Mom.

Oh my poor cousin -- I can feel your pain. I know how you pride yourself on being big and brave, and you must be so sad that you couldn't donate your blood! I let the fine people at EVBB take some of my blood a few weeks ago, and I was a good boy about it. I was really brave and guess what? I got to lie down on a table and this really nice guy named Dave cuddled with me and petted me and kissed my head. And before I knew it, I was done! I think my mom emailed your mom the photo.
But chin up, my cousin -- you will conquer this soon! And if you need me to come hold your paw, you know I'm there for you, man!
Love,
Cousin SMURF
Dear Cousin
I'm going to post your comment and the very nice (but graphic) photo that you sent me, so that everyone will be sure to see how brave you are.
Mom says I have to go get a bath and get my nails clipped in a few days and now I think I might be worried about that too.
Oh boy,
Love,
BOB

Oh Bob!
Don't be embarrassed! Lot's of us are scared, and people too! That you were willing to try is the important thing. You need to be healthy too or it's not worth it! If it does not work out next month, remember that! Sweet Doggie!
