Safe Halloween for Furry Frankensteins

Hi Everyone

Our friends at Best Friends Animal Society in Utah, have a partner in
First Home Forever Home  and this is a wonderful place where we can fufill Best Friends' Mission to bring about a time when there are NO MORE HOMELESS PETS.     I can't imagine being homeless.   Remember that time I got lost in the woods for two and a half hours?    Remember how scared I told you I was?    What if I didn't have a home and a family?  Oh my gosh.    That's an awful thought.

Here is the mission statement for First Home Forever Home

The Best Friends First Home Forever Home campaign focuses on helping people make and honor a lifetime commitment to their pets. Millions of companion animals die every year in crowded shelters because their families gave them up for some reason. Through education, intervention, and action, we provide guidance and resources to help people care for their pets and keep them as members of their family.

So you can click on the link above and go and visit this wonderful web site to learn all the things YOU can do to help.

Meanwhile, First Home Forever Home has put together some wonderful hints to keep all us pets safe on Halloween, which is this Saturday, October 31.      I don't have a costume, but I have a darn fine scarf that was a present to me from my friends at Leesburg Vet Hospital.

So here are some Halloween Safety Hints:

1.  When trick or treating, give yur pet a flashlight and a step-stool so he or she can reach the doorbell.   HA.   Better yet, leave your pet at home.

2.  Update your pets' ID tags and microchips so you can easily locate them hiding in the candy or chsing neighborhood kids.
Oh boy!   HA.   On second thought, don't let your pets eat it, or them.

3.  Your cat will probably just roll her eyes at those silly neighborhood kids in costumes.
Make her comfortable with a can of tuna in a closed room so she can have a safe, quiet evening at home watching Tom & Jerry.

4.  If your dog is breathing like Darth Vader or talking like Yoda, his Star Wars costume may be too tight.
Pet costumes aren't always a good idea  (and a lot of us HATE them)

5.  Give your pets a detailed lecture about the dangers of candles and jack-o-lanterns so they will be careful.
Of course, the better option would be to take those precautions for them.

Lots of Love and Halloween Treats!  (but no chocolate)
