Sack Vick on November 15th
We love NovaDog Magazine and if you live in or close to Northern Virginia, then you really should make sure you get a subscription to it. Our BFF, Bev Hollis does lots of the cover photos, and the Fall 2009 issue is one of them. That's June who lives in Bluemont, Virginia on the cover of the Fall issue, and June is snoozing away beside a nice stack of green objects. I'm not exactly sure what those objects are but they look interesting, and I have had myself a nap or two on that very same couch!

If you wake up your Mouse Person and ask him to take you to Visit Northern Virginia Dog Magazine on line you can find out lots of interesting stuff and put in your subscription request too.
We especially liked the article on page 3 of the Fall issue which is called "Rescue Pledges Food for Tackles", because here is something positive that can happen because of that stupid head, Michael Vick.
Bill Smith is the CEO of the Main Line Animal Rescue, located outside of Philadelphia in the State of Pennsylvania and he has pledged five bags of food for every time Vick gets tackled. Yahoo!
We did some Mouse Person Work this morning and found out that the information about Mr. Smith and his wonderful idea to bring attention to our PitBull Cousins all over the country, is spreading around. This article was in the Los Angeles Times on November 11.
Pennsylvania-based group Main Line Animal Rescue, which famously opened Oprah Winfrey's eyes to the problem of puppy mills, has more recently turned its attention to the plight of pit bulls and the NFL career of Michael Vick. Back in September, Main Line decided to try a new tactic to help animals and started taking out newspaper ads in cities where Vick and his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles, were scheduled to play.
The ads, the first of which ran in the Washington Post to coincide with an Eagles-Redskins game, urge animal lovers to "Consider volunteering at your local shelter on the day of the game. Spend some time walking, or brushing, or bathing, or hugging a homeless Pit Bull." But beyond the call to volunteerism, they also feature a pledge from Main Line: For each time Vick is sacked in the upcoming game, the group offers a donation of five bags of kibble to an area shelter.
The Washington Post ad produced results far greater than Main Line envisioned; dog food donations poured in and, when all was said and done, the donated-kibble tally was measured not in bags but in tons. (In all, four tons were donated to the Washington, D.C., Humane Society.)
This weekend, Vick and the Eagles come to Southern California to play the San Diego Chargers; naturally, Main Line is at it again. The ad below ran in the San Diego Union-Tribune today, and the group plans to donate dog food to a San Diego-based shelter at a later date.

If you would like to learn some more about Mr. Smith and his wonderful idea to help the PitBull's, you can ask your Mouse to fly you off to the web-site for Main LIne Animal Rescue to check out all the great things they are doing not just for us PitBulls but for ALL animals in need.
And you should remember, that just because a Shelter may not be in YOUR city, it is important to recognize good works when we see that they are being done. The people in Pennsylvania (who include my two-legged relatives, Seth and Jenny Rosen and their two legged boys, Jack and Ian) are lucky to have the wonderful people at Main Line Animal Rescue.

Oh, and I must admit that we are San Diego Chargers fans in our home, because my Mom lived in San Diego most of her life, and my sister, Lydia was born there (in La Mesa) and my "bro" Marshall, was born in Escondido. So we love the San Diego Charges and sorry, Uncle Seth and Aunt Jenny, we hope they sack the heck out of the Eagles and especially Mr. Michael Vick if he is brave enough to even step on the field. HA.
Love and PitBull LIcks,

Love your blog, Bob! That Mr. Smith is a pretty great man. My aunt just adopted a beagle mix from MLAR last week. Thanks for running that story about the good work that's being done for shelter pups.
Thanks, Ms Michele
Mr. Smith is a very good man, I think.
