Help for Otto

In my last Blog, I mentioned that our Kitty - Miss Bejing - had been to the vet and that we were worried that she was a little chubby.   Turns out she is perfectly fine the way she is, and we have let her continue with her "I'm not fat, I'm fluffy" status.

Yesterday we heard about a REALLY fat cat, and his name is Ottoman  (Otto for short).

It seems that Otto's owners were literally killing him with kindness and didn't know when to stop feeding him.  Now Otto weighs 34 pounds, which is almost the same as a person who might weigh over 500 pounds.

If ever there was a candidate for The Biggest Loser   which is a TV show on NBC, it would certainly appear to be Otto.     Rather makes you wonder what his human family looked like, doesn't it?

We went to visit our friends at NBC, News Channel Four and found this video clip about poor, fat Otto.

It has been pointed out that Otto has certainly not been opening his cans of Kitty Food by himself and that this is clearly a case of Animal Abuse.     I must say, I agree, although, sometimes I think that perhaps two-leg people are just clueless and probably didn't know any better.    We can bet that Otto hasn't been out chasing any mice or moles  (like our Miss Beijing does) at least not for many years.

So at the present time, the wonderful staff at Clementon Animal Hospital   in Clementon, New Jersey, are caring for Otto and have him on a special diet.   They think it will take about a year for Otto to lose 10 pounds, which would probably still make him rather chubby, but at least he would be mobile.   Right now he needs help getting from place to place and into and out of his Kitty LItter Bathroom Box.

I have sent an e-mail, compliments of my Mouse Person  (who also feels very badly about Otto) to the staff at Clementon and asked them if they needed donations to help with Otto's care.       I think they are hoping to find a loving (and intelligent) family to adopt Otto during his recovery, so if you know anyone who might want to do this, please let them know about it.

When I have heard back about the donation part, I will be sure to keep you posted.

In the meantime, please say some good wishes about Otto so that he will know that EVERYONE is on his side and hopes that he will soon be a much happier kitty.

Love and LIcks,
