Help Patrick, please!

This isn't a very big picture, but here is what I learned about today, and I hope you can help.

Help Patrick "the miracle dog"!

On March 16, maintenance workers in New Jersey were pulling garbage out of a chute when they found a starving, emaciated pitbull who was so neglected his bones were protruding and he had no body temperature.

He was rushed to an emergency veterinary facility where the staff pumped him full of fluids and covered him in warming blankets. The pitbull made it through the night and in to March 17 when he was named "Patrick" in honor of St. Patrick's Day. His health is improving every day: eating, wagging his tail, and giving kisses to the staff who have nursed him around the clock since his rescue.
Patrick's turnaround is incredible and one of the many people he has inspired is Newark, New Jersey Mayor, Cory Booker. Mayor Booker has been working for almost two years to establish a new animal shelter in Newark and Patrick's case highlights the desperate need so many communities have to provide shelter and care for animals who have been mistreated, abused, neglected and abandoned.

Last Friday, Mayor Booker started a cause, "Build an Animal Shelter in Honor of Patrick", and has set up a Birthday Wish to do just that. Mayor Booker is all about doing small acts of kindness, love and service, so take action by checking out his Birthday Wish, donating if you can, and sharing Patrick's amazing story with your friends. The abuse that Patrick suffered at the hands of his former owner (who has now been charged with “torture and torment of a living creature”) is unspeakable -- our hope is that Patrick's story will serve to raise awareness about animal cruelty and that Mayor Booker's Birthday Wish will help provide shelter and care to more animals in need.

Love and LIcks,
