Murphy Robinson, Braveheart

This is probably one of the hardest blogs my Mom and I have ever written.

We have just learned that our dear, dear friend, Murphy Robinson, was given rest yesterday, June 22,2011 in the early evening.

We have shared the story of Murphy, his Dad, Luke, and his four legged brother, Hudson, with all of our friends since the minute we met up with them over two years ago.  It all started in 2006, when Luke Robinson, saddened by the loss of his beloved Great Pyrenees, Malcolm, decided that it was time that someone start the fight to find some answers about canine cancer and why so many dogs were being affected.    He made a pledge to Malcolm that awareness would be raised, answers would be found and that no dog affected by this awful disease would have died in vain.

And the journey began.    In March of 2008, Luke sold his truck, put all of his possessions into storage and hit the road, with Murphy and young Hudson at his side.   The amazing story of
2 Dogs 2000 Miles  had begun.

826 days later, after crossing through 16 states and traveling over 2300 miles, the three of them finally arrived in Boston.      That part of the journey was done, but sadly, shortly after their arrival in Boston, Murphy was diagnosed with nasal adenocarcinoma.

But as we learned from all of the dogs before him, "Cancer Can't Keep a Good Dog Down", and Murphy was able to help with the creation of the next steps to be taken, and
2 Million Dogs  was born

Murphy Robinson was a true friend and a very braveheart.    He and his "bro", Hudson, stayed at our home here in Leesburg, Virginia, for several weeks the summer before they arrived in Boston.       We traveled to special events together and did all that we could to help Murphy and Hudson and their man with the good fight.    We raised some money, had some fun, and shared a box of Wagatha's Wonderful Dog Treats.

We walked together in Washington D.C. and then sent them on their way to Boston.

Now we are sending our friend on another long journey, but at the end of this one, there will be plenty of time to rest, to relax and to wait until we can all be together again.    And in the meantime, Murphy, my friend, we will keep up the work that you started.     Together we will find a cause for canine cancer and ultimately, we will find a cure.

Love,

Your Friend  Bob

I followed their 2000 mile journey via the internet and know Luke, Murphy & Hudson did all they could to raise awareness of canine cancer. So very sorry to hear that Murphy passed away.-Janet Roberts, Whispering Pines Farm, Keyser, WV

    Thank you, Ms. Janet.
I am certain that our Princess Daisy (who was the cover girl for the very first Cancer Can't Keep a Good Dog Down Calendar, has found Murphy by now and is getting him settled in at The Bridge.

    Bob,
Thanks for your tribute to our friend Murphy. My mom started following the journey of Luke, Hudson, and Murphy when they came through Rhode Island. We lost my sister Casey to cancer and thought it was great that the Robinson boys were doing so much to raise awareness of canine cancer. Murphy was a brave dog and we are going to miss him. Do you think he has met your Daisy and my Casey yet?
    Mickey the sad hound dog

Yes, Mickey, I am SURE that Princess Daisy and your Casey have already found Murphy and are getting him settled in to life at The Bridge.  Please don't be sad, because with those girls I am sure The Bridge is a happy place.
    Love, Bob

Bob and Patti -- Thank you for your wonderful blog about Murphy. We will all miss him. He was very brave to the end. I'm glad he got to meet you and stay with you for a while. I am sure he has already been contacted by Princess Daisy and she has already told him the ropes and who is BOSS! (Good luck, Murphy!)

    Much love to you both,
    Uncle Erich
