Cruisin' with Bob

I have discovered something wonderful for you to do this summer!    Just imagine!   Every Thursday evening from June thru September, you can go on a cruise with The Potomac RiverBoat Company    Now this is what I call a treat!  Of course, I suppose it helps if you like water (which I don't), but just think how much fun it will be to get a group of your friends and go on an adventure like this together!

The cruise that allows us four legs to join in the fun is of the seaport of Alexandria, Virginia and this is what you will see  (from the web-site):

"The marina and waterfront of Old Town Alexandria; the imposing Torpedo Factory, now a prominent regional arts center; the lawns and colorful gardens of Founders Park; the Old Town Yacht Basin; the architecture of Admiral's Row and its nouveau brownstone residences, and the tiny white clapboard Jones Point Lighthouse, among other things. The narration is lively, informative, and entertaining, establishing the importance of this colonial seaport located eight miles south of Washington, D.C. and north of George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens."

And whereas your human will need to pay $15 to go on the cruise, you get to go along FREE (just remember to bring a flat, 6 foot leash - cause that is a requirement).

You can read some more about the cruise and see some photos when you visit our friends at MetroMix  which is a place my Mouse Person really seems to like as they have LOTS of great information about what is going on around town.

Speaking of dogs on boats, did you know that the Schipperke (which in Belgium means "little boatman") is the perfect dog to live with if you happen to live on a boat?   Or ride on a boat a lot?     We actually have a client here at Everything & The Dog   (her name is Fenway), who is a Schipperke, and one of my friends, named Holly, really does live on a boat in Baltimore.

Mouse Person took me flying off to Wikipedia so we could learn about Schipperke's and this is what we discovered:

"Schipperke's are found as working dogs aboard barges in the canals, with three jobs onboard: security (barking vigorously when anyone approached the barge), keeping the barges free of vermin, and nipping at the towing horses' heels to get them moving to tow the barge. Due to their bravery and adventurous character, not to mention low center of gravity, Schipperkes are to this day known as excellent boat dogs, and are often found cruising the world aboard sailing yachts and powerboats. They are not prone to seasickness."

My friend, Holly used to write a Blog from her boat-home, but she hasn't been doing that recently.    I will have to send her a special letter to find out how she is doing and perhaps tell her about the RiverBoat Cruise, because I am sure she would like to go on that with her Mom and Dad.

Here is Holly:

Maybe I could ask Holly on a "date"?    Since she is an experienced Boat Dog, maybe going on the cruise with her wouldn't be quite so scary for me.     I'll have to think about that one.

Meanwhile, if you go on a cruise with your two legged people, could you let me know and send me some pictures?     In spite of the fact that I am not at all happy about water in general, I still think that this cruisin' thing sounds like a LOT of fun and I'll be very happy to report back after I hear from someone who has actually taken the trip.

Love and Licks,

Bob
