2012 Cancer Can't Keep a Good Dog Down Calendar

Hi Everyone

It is time again to submit your photos and stories to my Uncle Erich with 2 Million Dogs Foundation for the 2012 edition of the amazing calendar, "Cancer Can't Keep a Good Dog Down".

As you all know, our Princess Daisy was the very first calendar girl in 2009

We still miss our Daisy-Girl every single day of every single week, but when we look at her little face with her silly tongue giving Cancer the Big Raspberry, we know she is at The Rainbow Bridge and taking care of all the pups (and some kitties) that have met her.     She's in charge of Internet Shopping, teaches a work-shop on "How to Develop your Inner Princess", and helps all the newbies to adjust to their new lives at The Bridge.

Last year (2011) the cover boy was my friend, Pete.    And let me tell you, Daisy has a lot to learn from Pete when it comes to style.   Check him out.

I so want a pair of those Doggles that Pete is wearing.      I need to find my Mouse Person right now and research that!

Anyway, my Uncle Erich has written a a wonderful BLOG about the 2012 calendar contest, so find your own Mouse Person and check that out.

The contest runs through September 3rd.   However, a little bird whispered in my ear that there might be a possible, maybe, extension of that time.   But why take a change.     Get your submission off to Uncle Erich and friends, TODAY.

The calendar is in honor of and a memorial to our beloved companions touched by cancer, and a tribute to their unfaltering spirit, undaunted courage, and the unshakable loyalty they have given us.

To visit and get even more information about the Calendar Contest and the mission of 2 Million Dogs, just have that pesky little Mouse Person who lives with you, click right here    Here is some very basic, but important information that you should know about:  (straight from their web-site)

2 Million Dogs was formed with the singular aim of eradicating
cancer in pets and people and it will work towards that end by
educating people about and investing in comparative oncology studies.
To learn more about us, please visit
www.2milliondogs.org.

Proceeds from the Calendar contribute to our continued interest in
education and awareness, empowerment and mobilization, and investment in research.

2 Million Dogs is a 501 C (3) organization which relies on the
generosity of individuals and corporations to help us in our
mission to eradicate cancer through investing in comparative
oncology studies.

I bet that you want to know how the fund-raising works, don't you?  Of course you do.  So I will tell you.

First go to the website and create your profile page.  THEN TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND TELL THEM TO TELL EVERYONE THEY KNOW.     And then you can follow your progress and see how much money you raised for this wonderful cause.

Voting began July 9th and ends at midnight (Central Time) on Sept. 3, 2011. Voting starts with a minimum of $5.00. Each U.S. dollar donated equals one vote. If you donate $5.00 then five votes will go towards the dog(s) of your choice. You can vote as often as you like, for as many dogs as you like. However, whole dollars only, please. For example, if you donate $21.74, only 21 votes will be applied.

The thirteen dogs with the highest number of votes will be the featured calendar dogs (cover and 12 months) for the 2012 "Cancer Can't Keep a Good Dog Down" Calendar. However - the next 100 dogs with the highest number of votes will also appear in the calendar, on our two gallery pages!

We wanted to see who is "leading the pack" as of this writing, and it is Dixie and Buddy, True Soul Mates:

Here is their story:

These dogs were the very best of friends and had a truly remarkable connection. Although they belonged to two different families, they were together nearly every weekend. During those times, they loved to run together in the woods, swim in the lake, or share their mutual obsession with tennis balls.
When they were together, they were inseparable.

Then suddenly, Dixie was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma and nearly bled to death internally. After an emergency splenectomy she was given a short time to live. During that time, she lived life to the fullest and spent as much time as possible with her best friend. Two months later, Buddy was also diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma and died.

Two best friends, virtually inseparable in life, were both diagnosed with a particularly lethal form of cancer within a few months of each other.

Their deaths broke the hearts of two families. To this day, we remember the special bond that was shared by these two remarkable dogs….a bond that was broken by cancer.

Please join us in the fundraising effort for this organization and helping to prevent and treat this deadly disease.

I know that Dixie and Buddy have hooked up with Princess Daisy by now.      And the picture of them?    I know it is snow, but to me it looks like they are sitting on clouds, and perhaps they truly are.    We'll have to write to ask Daisy to check it out.      Did you know that The Princess is writing a book?        HA.     I'll tell you all about that later.

The individual goal of Dixie and Buddy was to raise $1000 and they are more than half way to their goal.   That is another neat thing about the contest this year.   Everyone gets a little money-raising-meter-gidget-thingy and you can see the progress being made.    I am thinking that I need to send my $5 to Dixie and Buddy, but I don't want to play favorites either, so I might have to break out the piggy bank.

So, PLEASE, PLEASE, help 2 Million Dogs to raise money this year for research and help us all to prevent and treat the deadly disease that took our Princess Daisy and FAR TOO MANY other friends and family.

Love and Licks,

Bob
