National Dog Week, 2011

This morning, my Mouse Person and I decided to take a trip in cyberspace and find out some information about National Dog Week, which we subsequently discovered has ended today.   We thought it started today.

I guess we are always a "day late and a dollar short", as Mom says.    Well this was discouraging

I think it is probably just confusing (and confusion is discouraging).... because we figured out that National Dog Week is the last full week in September.  This year it is Monday, the 19th of September thru today, Sunday, the 25th of September.   If you started couting the week backward and said that the week ended on Friday, the 30th of September, then the week would have been from Saturday the 24th thru Friday the 30th.   Do you see why it is easy to get confused?

Evidently this was thought up about 83 years ago, as that is when the first National Dog Week was celebrated. National Dog Week was launched in 1928 by a group of dog fanciers and sportsmen dedicated to a nationwide educational campaign for better dog care.  Originally sponsored by the Dog Owner’s League of America and the National Dog Week Association, these organizations worked as advocates for better dog laws and more humane policies towards animals. Even though these organizations no longer exist, the impact of National Dog Week continues to ripple through the animal community in little ways.

But not in big enough ways, if you ask me and my Mouse Person.    I think we probably should be a little more prepared for this week, next year.  And I definately am going to work on that one.

But I must tell you that in searching around for some information about the week that I have missed, I did discover a few good things.

1.   I think I might be in love again.    Here is a picture of who I want to be in love with:

This is Cici, and her Mom is named CeliaSue Hecht, and you can visit their blogging at Have Dog Blog Will Travel    I always love it when I discover a new blogging place that involves a pit bull, -- or in this case, it appears a Pit Bull/Dalmation Mix-Up.     I think Cici is very beautiful and of course I will write to her and ask her if she would like to be friends.     Her Mom's Blogging is very interesting too and I will have to spend some time catching up on some of her information.

If Cici doesn't want to be in love with me, at least maybe we will be blogging buddies and we can always say we met because I was confused about National Dog Week.   HA.

2.  Finding Fuzzybutt Four was another discovery that came about because of National Dog Week (although Ms. Sheila who writes that blogging thinks that the week started on the 25th (today) so obviously she is confused too about what constitutes the last full week of a month.

Anyway.....Ms. Sheila asked me to write a Guest Blog for National Dog Week, as she knew I was a Boy Bloginator and Pit Bull Reporter Extra Ordinary.   Of course I agreed and I believe she will be posting my blogging this week at Finding FuzzyButt Four  .   Ms. Sheila's blog is sub-titled:  A Blog For Finding a New Companion for Hudson, About Pet Adoption, and Homes For Other Puppies, Too

As you know from my previous blogging, Luke Robinson, Hudson and Murphy, were the miracle walkers from Austin to Boston and have now continued with 2 Million Dogs to keep research for comparative oncology in the forefront, in the hopes that some day we will find a cause (and a cure) for the horrible disease of Canine Cancer.

Sadly, Murphy passed away from cancer just after the big walk ended, and Luke decided to find a companion for Hudson.

Yeah!!!!!   That would be Indiana  (or Indy)..... and here he is:

Please follow FuzzyButt Four and also 2 Million Dogs  to keep youself current on all the exciting events and Puppy Up! Walks that are coming up in the near future.     There is ALWAYS something exciting going on in the Puppy Up! World, believe me.

3.   MOPE, My Mouse Person and I, found lots more interesting things to blog about when we were researching National Dog Week, so even though it appears we missed the entire week, we feel we gained new friends and a promise to work harder next year to promote this week.

So I am off to write a comment and sign up on Cici's blogging and ask her Mom to have permission to be in love with her.        And because it is Sunday, I also think I will take a nap.

Love and Licks,

Bob
Boy Bloginator
-------- WELCOME to Indy!
--------------- kisses to Cici

Seamus the Famous beagle and I were also confused about National Dog Week...and at one point thought it was sponsored by a dog food company. Not so much. We agree--more next year!

Bob, I wanted to let you know that my mom has spent the last few months catching up on your blog and telling me all about it. I know I am far away, in Iowa, but I admire you from far away. We have many things in common, I am also what they think is a Pitt Bull. I can jump VERY high, especially out my back door. I also dislike getting my nails trimmed and recently shunned my mom for an entire day when she cut one nail. To top it off, I currently have a bulldog type dog living with us. Mom says we are just fostering her until she gets better, but I am starting to have my doubts.

This bulldog mix, Sweet Pea, has her OWN blog, gets to go all sorts of fun places, gets special food, and really sometimes just drives me up a wall. I feel like you "get me" from your stories. I look forward to reading more about you and your adventures, and learning about all of your friends.

Since mom hasn't bothered to start my blog yet, I guess you can look at Sweet Peas and find pictures of me there. I am the one with the big ears...which make up for your sometimes lack of ears.

    Butterfly kisses,
    Abbie

PS I hope you don't mind a slightly younger girl...I am only 3 years old at best, and in great shape if I do say so myself.
