The Real Thing
I guess that sort of means that if you are "part PitBull" you are truly a PitBull and why try to pretend that you are a "lab mix". HA. See why I started our Pit Bull Pals Club, which is growing daily?
Anyway it turns out that Mom was actually ranting on about
OATMEALYes. Oatmeal.
Quite a few months ago, this summer, Mom decided that since she was getting really old, she might as well try to undo some of the damage caused by "the passage of time", and would try to be more healthy. This included going back to walking dogs every day (which means she now gets lots of exercise), and no more TV dinners. Now she eats a LOT of green leafy things and since the weather has turned cold, she has decided that breakfast might be a big help in the energy department.
So she tried "instant" oatmeal. Not for the first time, mind you. Mom has eaten this product in the past, however, all of a sudden it seems that it no longer had any good reason for being alive, as far as Mom is concerned and so, yesterday, she did some shopping in the large boxes which are called "supermarkets"....... and since they don't wear capes with giant S symbols on them, I have no idea why they are super, but that is a problem for the two legs to worry about.
Mom came home with a round container full of "real" Oatmeal and this morning she had a bowl.
Yipes. I agree 1000% (cause I get to lick the bottom of breakfast bowls, regardless of what they are holding inside of them). That stuff is delicious.
I got really interested in the entire subject and now I am wondering why someone doesn't invent Oatmeal for Dogs. Mom says I could probably just have a big dollop on my kibble in the morning, but I'm not sure if whitefish and Oatmeal are compatible. I'll have to think about that one.
MOPE, my Mouse Person, was sleeping under a roll of paper towels when we got into the office, but I found him and asked him to help me find out about Oatmeal.
First we flew over to visit Quaker Oats which seemed a logical starting point and that was very interesting, indeed.
There are a lot of interesting things to learn about oatmeal, if you care to take the time to do it, but it is very encouraging to know that

We also discovered that:
A whopping 93 percent of adults agree that breakfast is a key component of a healthful diet, according to the IFIC Food & Health Survey. Yet 56 percent of Americans don’t eat breakfast daily.
Some nutritious breakfast options fit almost any budget. Take oatmeal for example. At only about 40 cents per serving, whole grain oatmeal provides essential nutrients, including B vitamins, iron, and fiber, which is lacking in most Americans’ diets.
The recommendation to eat a daily breakfast has been a mainstay of nutrition advice for generations – and for good reason. There is strong support linking a multitude of health benefits to breakfast. Eating breakfast regularly is associated with better heart health, lower body weight and improved overall diet quality.
So I am going to figure out if it is good for dogs to add Oatmeal to their daily diet and if I discover that there is any possible way that this can take place, I will be the first to share with you.
Meanwhile, if you want to have a Mom (or Dad) that is much more pleasant to live with, please encourage them to take a few minutes in the morning to sit down an have a bowl of oatmeal with you while you are eating your kibble.
You can tell them that they can sit at the table, that they don't have to sit on the floor with you ----- or I guess you could get a special chair and you could eat at the table. I have heard that the family who sits down to a nice breakfast together is probably going to be more able to go out and have a nice long walk together later in the day, and that is also guaranteed to make both the TWO legs and the FOUR legs have a much better day.
See...... isn't it interesting what you can learn about if you just decide that The Real Thing is much better than trying to be something that you are not. ??????
So if you are a PitBull...... or part PitBull....... stand up and be counted. Be proud of yourself. Let's encourage ALL our PitBull friends to spread the word. Like Quaker Oats, we have been around for a very long time and were once THE MOST POPULAR FAMILY DOG in America. Have a dollop of oatmeal on your kibble and lets see if we can regain our proper place instead of being discriminated again because of some rude people who obviously didn't take time for a nice breakfast and a long walk.
Love and Licks,
Bob
