A Different Kind of Christmas Gift: Support the Zoo

Since we live in Leesburg, Virginia, we are close to the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C.       No matter where you live there is usually a zoo close to you, but of course we think our Zoo is pretty wonderful as they are really trying to help the animals in their care and support programs to help animals in the wild.

Did you know that animals in the Zoo need toys and objects to enrich their lives?  Just like dogs like toys and bones, zoo animals like to play too.

This morning MOPE, my mouse person was asleep under the leaves of an African Violet, so I guess he was getting in the mood, but I woke him up and we flew to the Zoo's web-site place and learned about their

Animal Enrichment Wish List

lion with a ballEnrichment is an integral part of the daily care of the animals at the National Zoo. It helps animals demonstrate their natural behavior, adds variety to their day, allows them exercise, gives them choices in their environment, and enhances their well-being. Enrichment also gives Zoo scientists the chance to study and observe the animals' behavior.

Zoo keepers have created a wish list of items to help enhance the lives of the animals at the Zoo. You can buy things on the list and donate them at the Zoo, make a donation online so we can buy high-priority items, or you can shop our online store and pick items we'll get on your behalf.

Like most of the Different Kind of Christmas Gifts I have discovered, you can spend as little as $5.00  or you can spend as much as you like and the objects that the Zoo needs are many and varied.   Here are a few:

It is very easy to shop, and you can get a gift card to send to your friends or family to tell them what you have purchased on their behalf.

Our Zoo also has a lot of Holiday Events and Activities  so it is a wonderful time to visit, and while you are there you can purchase items in the gift shops to support the Zoo also.

I want to go and see the Holiday Lights, but Mom said they might not want a PitBull to come and visit.      I have no idea why they would not want to see me, but then again on the other hand, maybe they have Flying Monkeys at the Zoo and you know how I feel about them.

Only 18 more shopping days left, so take advantage of this wonderful source for ALL your gifts.

Love and Licks,

Bob
