A Burning Question
I have a very important question. ??????? Why do dogs pee on fire hydrants (and actually on poles and other things like that --- mail box posts, etc?)
Mom says that they do it because another dog did it first, but then my question is why did the FIRST DOG do it?
I believe this is like which came first? The chicken or the egg?
I really, really would like to know the answer to this question, so if you think you can explain it to me, would you be nice enough to do that?

I don't have any answers but your post made me giggle. My dogs stop and sniff and pee at every little thing but mostly the light poles and the fire hydrants! Chicken or the egg? Hydrant or the pee? Hmmmmm.....

Isn't this distressing? I hate stuff like this. It is like Leaping Day (February 29th) and The Saving of Daylight.

Well Bob, what I was told is that each dog wants the other dogs to think they are the biggest dog, so they try to pee as high on the tree, hydrant, pole, etc,. My dog Mickey (Westie) would actually stand on his front legs, so he could pee higher than the last dog. Little dogs have a real problem trying to show the other dogs, they are really big (not). I'm sure this goes back to some kind of old DNA when dogs were free and were in packs. So pee as high on the tree as you can so other dogs will think you are the biggest dog around.
