Fila's Baby

Here is a very cute picture of Fila who lives with one of our wonderful dog walkers who is named Alexandra.

Fila is Shihtzu mix-up and is obviously asleep.
---- but please note the pink lump snuggled just under Fila's chin.    This is Fila's "baby" - or so Fila thinks.     We all know it is one of our favorite toys --- a My Squeaky Ball which are made with lots of love by another one of our great pet sitters, Ms. Phoebe.

Ms. Alex who is Fila's two leg mom, helps my own two leg mom out every week with my Mom's dog walking route.      As a thank you (because after all how many Starbucks Girft Cards can one person actually use)..... Mom gave Alex the My Squeaky Ball as a gift for Fila.

Who knew that Fila has mistaken the ball for her baby and is now NEVER without it?

But that's love.     You never know when you will meet something or someone and fall madly in love.      And it's always a nice surprise when it happens.

A Little Unique

A few weeks ago, my Mom and my Sis, went to The Garden Show in Leesburg, which unfortunately turned out to be a wet rainy day.   No fun, really, to walk around in the freezing cold and be wet and soggy while you try to shop.

They did however, discover, a great new place to find your next collar or harness and since you know I am always needing (Mom said that should be wanting - not needing) a new collar, then I am hoping that Mom will get out her credit card and surprise me with one of these fine collars from Ms. Pat Little, who makes an amazing assortment of wearable items. There are so many choices that Mom said she hardly knew where to start, and now that she is warm, dry and in a much better mood, we went to visit Ms. Pat at her web-site AND you should find your Mouse Person (mine was sleeping in a bowl of peanuts)...... and pick out something nice for summer.

I have narrowed my choices down to THREE ----- and perhaps you can help me to pick one.    Which one do you think would look the best on me........ here is me (in case you forgot)

Walking for Water

In 2004, Kristen Karinshak, a sophomore from Heritage High School in our town of Leesburg, Virginia, learned that in the villages of Burkina Faso - which is in West Africa - mothers and children have to walk up to 6 hours with heavy jugs on their heads to get water for their families.   So Kristen decided to take action.

At the age of 15, she co-led her first fundraising event by organizing 15 teenagers to start Walking for Water   That is a big responsibility for being only 15 years old.

This year Walking for Water is also raising money for drinking water in Kenya and they need our support.

Think about this:
We use 25 gallons of water to take a bath, but everyday Dagara women walk miles carrying 25 gallons of water on their head for the tribe.   Children start carrying water at the age of 3.

Think about this:
UNICEF reports that 99% of children in the USA attend school.     UNICEF also estimates that 27% of the children in Burkina Faso attend school.

Think about this:
The World Health Organization estimates that 16 children per 1000 in the USA will die before age 5. The WHO estimates that in Burkina Faso, 449 children per every 1000 will die before they become 5.

Worse than Anything

Our bear problem here at our home has really become quite annoying.

Almost nightly now, that sucker is coming into OUR yard and tearing up OUR trash.    Last night Mom threw out our trash bag which included half of Arby's Rueben Sandwich from her lunch. This morning, trash was everywhere, except of course the sandwich (and some fries).   Now please understand that Mom said the sandwich was awful, she shouldn't have ordered it at all, she only ate half because she was hungry and she would never do so again.    HOWEVER, she did not buy it so Yogi could have dinner.

Not to mention the toll this is taking on poor Beijing Kitty.



Beijing and I have become very "special friends".       This relationship may seem very strange to some, but to us, we are happy.   We are like soul-mates, Mom says.   All very strange, she also added, because when Beijing first came to our home to live, she terrified me in the worst way possible.    She would wait until I was pooping in the woods, run past me a thousand miles and hour and run up a tree to watch.


Thankfully, my sister, Lydia, didn't do the best job of taking this picture, as I am doing "you know what" in the woods.        Anyway, back to the bear.

Beijing Kitty sleeps in our office at night.   In the winter this is because it is too cold outside. Now it is because of the bear.
Unfortunately the office is FULL of windows and big glass doors, so I am sure that when the bear comes in for his Midnight Snack, Beijing Kitty is able to watch everything and see him out there and she has become quite upset over these new developments.

Mom says we will move the trash can to the other side of the garage and that will help. Meanwhile, I am sticking as close to Beijing as possible because there is "safety in numbers".

Mom says, that things could be worse.
We could live in Niger.

As guess that with a Bear in your Woods, one much always remember that things could be worse somewhere else.

My sister, Lydia, drives a very cute little car called a Mini Cooper and it is perfect for her personality.   She really loves her car AND the dealer actually gave her a bonus when she bought the car.


Obviously, this is not the same as having Smudge ride around with her all day, but it is too hot for Smudgie to do that, so this is the next best thing.    We probably should get Smudgie a Mini-Cooper jacket however.

                                    I'll have to work on that and see if the Mini Cooper people make a jacket that Smudgie can wear --- or maybe a bandanna when the weather is hot.     Anyway, back to my story about the car.

Next to her Bulldog and her Mini Cooper, Lydia also loves the movie called Nightmare Before Christmas, and so when she was at Disneyland in California the last time, she got herself a very fine antenna ball ------- and here it is:



So when Mom is driving around Leesburg visiting doggies, and she passes Lydia on the road, she always knows that the cute little grey Mini Cooper with the crossed bones belongs to Lydia.    Most of the time Mom then calls Sister on the phone and says ---- "Ha - I just passed you".

So today, guess what happened?     Mom was driving up Edwards Ferry Road headed toward Costco and she passed Lydia in her cute little car with her cute little Antenna Ball. So Mom called and said ...... "Ha - I just passed you" but Lydia said .... "Oh no you didn't, cause I'm at home."        Mom said "WOW.    Cause this cute little grey Mini had a Nightmare Antenna Ball."

AND NOW GUESS WHAT HAPPENED?    YEP!!!!!!   Lydia went out to our driveway and there was the car, but THERE WAS NO
                                                       on the antenna.

SOMEONE HAS STOLEN MY SISTER'S ANTENNA BALL!     Can you believe who would do such a thing?     Not to mention the fact that since the Mini with the Stolen Antenna Ball is grey in color, all sorts of people are now going to think this is Lydia.

Here is the deal.      Just return the Antenna Ball - no questions asked ---- drop it off at The MailStop, by the WalMart off of Edwards Ferry Road.      If you want to you can put it into a small box and write Lydia on the top of the box.

Wouldn't this make you feel much better about yourself?      Surely now that you have read all about how sad Lydia feels without her special Antenna Ball, it makes you feel badly that you took it when no one was looking.   Right?

You will feel much, much, much better when is back where it belongs.

Whim? Meet Lucy!

We have two new arrivals to our Everything & The Dog family and so I am very proud to introduce them to you.

First off..... remember this little face ?????

This was "JellyBean" at age 2 weeks........ (around Christmas time) and now "JellyBean" has finally come home to live with her Mom, Ms. Jo. Not only does she have a new Mom, she has a new name too.......   Lucy!    A perfect choice and a Happy New Family.

Mom says the best thing about new puppies is their breath.   She says that if only we could figure out a way to bottle PUPPY BREATH (in one of those containers with the little sticks ------

that there would be WHIRLED PEAS EVERYWHERE



And you know what?   I think she might be right.     When was the last time you had a whiff of wonderful sweet puppy breath?    Maybe YOU need a little addition to YOUR family!

Are you Aware of Your Stress?

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month?     I didn't either, but then I heard about it on NPR (WAMU 88.5 here in our area) and so I asked MOPE, my lazy Mouse Person, if he could kindly wake up and help me check it out.

He said he was too stressed to help me and I should do it myself.     Yipes.
      Just listening to him whine about how stressed he was made me stressed and I wasn't stressed in the first place.   Oh well, Mom and I were able to stumble along without him, and just wait until the next time he wants to share a cookie with me! HA.

If you check out this stress awareness place in cyberspace you can even find a FREE Stress Reducing Game.



I decided to test this out on Mom, and guess what --- it appears to work.     Usually if Mom has to play one of these games where you pop things, or things fall on you, or any number of other exploding devices occur --- she winds up even more stressed than when she started.     I think it is just that she needs to play the "beginner" level more often.

The problem I am having, however, is that it appears that the day (or month) for dealing with your stress seems to be different in different parts of the world, and dependent upon which web-site is legitimate and which one wants to sell you Stress Relieving Balls for all of your employees.

So with this in mind, I have decided that EVERY DAY should be STRESS FREE.    Do whatever it is that you like best in order to remove the stress from your lives.

Here is my list of Top Five ways to relieve stress:
1. Drink plenty of toilet water
2. Bark loudly for no reason
3. Lick someone's face
4. Chase Squirrels (or Flying Monkeys)
5. Eat grass until you throw up.

That should do it for just about anybody, no matter what day or what month it happens to be.

Some of Us are So Brave!

I admit it.   I am a bit on the Cowardly Lion Side of the Fence. I think that if I was forced into picking out a part from my favorite movie (The Wizard of Oz).... then I would certainly have to give a lot of consideration to being the Lion, in all his cowardly glory.

                                      And I really did like it when he sang his special song..... remember this one?
If I were king of the fore-e-e-est / Not queen, not duke, not prince / My regal robes of the fore-e-e-est / Would be satin, not cotton, not chintz / I'd command each thing, whether fish or fowl / With a r-r-ruff and a r-r-ruff, and a royal growl - R-R-Ruff! / As I click my heels / All the trees would kneel / And the mountains bow / And the bulls kowtow / And the sparrow would take wing / If I, if I were ki-i-i-i-ng! / The rabbits would show respect to me / The chipmunks genuflect to me / Though my tail would lash / I would show compash / For every underling / If I, if I were king / Just ki-i-i-i-ing!

I might even be kind to The Flying Monkeys (or not.....) I'd have to give that one some really special thought.

However, if I was ever put into a position where I had to truly stand up and NOT be afraid of anything AND protect my family, I hope I would be as brave as Kilo.    If you have not yet read about Kilo's story, here it is ---- (first his picture)

"Pit Bulls get a bad reputation in the media, especially in my area of New York. But a heroic Staten Island pup brought the bully breed a bit of much deserved positive press this week.

On Saturday, Justin Becker and Nicole Percoco had an intruder visit their apartment, posing as a FedEx deliveryman. As the man tried to force his way inside, Justin trapped the armed suspect in the doorway, but was unable to shut him out. That’s when the couple’s 12-year old Pit Bull, Kilo, sprang into action.

As the brave dog leapt towards the door, the intruder fired a shot into Kilo’s head and ran off. There was so much blood, Nicole thought for sure that they would have to say goodbye to their beloved dog. But Justin rushed him to the veterinarian and Kilo turned out to be very lucky.

The bullet ricocheted off Kilo’s skull and exited through his neck, sparing him from certain death. Kilo’s veterinarian called the case “one in a million” and credited Kilo’s thicker skull for protecting his brain. Apparently, Pit Bulls have particularly thick skulls as compared to other breeds, such as Yorkies. The hospital staff was so impressed by Kilo’s loyalty and sweet personality that they drew an “S” for “superhero” on his head bandage.

I am always in awe of our dogs’ selfless behavior. Kilo could certainly sense the danger of the situation at Justin and Nicole’s apartment, yet he rushed to protect his people in a split second.

Kilo is lucky to be alive, but Justin and Nicole are just as lucky to have him as a part of their family."

So congratulations to you, Kilo. You are one brave boy and you have taken us one step further in the fight to end Breed Discrimination because some stupid headed two legs think we are born "dangerous dogs".

   I am so proud of you!     I wish I was brave like you.   You definately get A MAJOR PRIZE, for this act of bravery.   (I hope your Mom has a good sense of humor and lets you keep it in your home and doesn't make you put it out into the "dog house")

Happy Birthday, Mr. Pat

                 (this is a joke........... because the sponge is named Bob..... like me...... only telling you in case you didn't "get it")

I wanted to surprise Mr. Pat (who is, in case you forgot, my two-leg Brother-In-Law)   That would mean he is married to my two leg sister, Lydia.     He is also the son of my two-leg German Grammy, who is called Omi, and you have read my Blogging about everyone on that side of the family from time to time.     Since Omi is German (and 100% German at that), then Mr. Pat is 50% German.     My Mom is also 50% German because of her mother's side of the family, but that has nothing to do with anything. I just thought you might like to know.

So.    Because Mr. Pat is 50% German, and Omi is 100% German, Omi is making Mr. Pat a Birthday Dinner tonight and it is going to be a REAL German Dinner.   Well..... it will be as real as Omi can make it considering the fact that we live in Virginia and not in Germany.

And so, I thought it would be fun if we learned how to say "Happy Birthday" in German.     Actually, since I'm a PitBull, I can't even say Happy Birthday in English, or any other language, but I do a pretty good job of barking along if someone starts to sign.

In any event, I knew I would need to get some really big help from Mope, my Mouse Person, on this one, because my Mom forgot almost all the German she learned when she was a little girl (that is another LONG story, for another time).    Right now, it's Mr. Pat's Happy Birthday, so I'm trying to stick to the subject.

Mom says I have no attention span whatsoever.     Ha.   She should talk.    Try asking her what she ate for breakfast.

So --- let's start with the easy stuff:

"Herzlichen Glückwünsch zum Geburtstag" - Happy birthday to you.

"Alles Gute zum Geburtstag" - Best wishes for your birthday.

"Danke für die Einladung" - Thank you for the invitation.

"Ich gratuliere zum Geburtstag!" - Congratulations on your birthday!

Here is an important and helpful hint, however........Before learning how to say "Happy Birthday" in German though, you need to know about one important cultural point especially among older Germans: Wishing a German a happy birthday before their birthday is considered bad luck, so don't do it. And as for gifts and cards you may want to send, just make sure to state to them that they should open the package on their birthday.

So because I do not want to have Mr. Pat to have any bad luck, and because I don't know what time of the day he was born, I have arranged for my Mouse Person to stay up all night and wish this to Mr. Pat at 12:01am, the DAY AFTER his big day. I wanted to be doubly sure that I didn't wish him Happy Birthday BEFORE the appropriate hour.

So Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Mr. Patrick - Happy Birthday to you.

Please, Please, Please: Help Mikey

Hi Everyone.

One of my roving reporters is my Cousin Smurf, and he and his Mom, Beth, sent me a heads up about this poor little puppy and the trouble he got into. And also, about how lucky he was that the man who accidently hurt him is now ON PURPOSE helping him. There are not enough helping people like this man, and if anyone knows anyone at People Magazine, they should send in this story to the "Heroes Among Us" section.

So here is "Mikey" and here is his story:
and just so you don't get confused..... "Mikey's Story" is written by his new BFF, who is named Mike.

"My name is Mike and I live in Christiansburg, Virginia. On Monday, I ran over a three to four month old puppy in front of my apartment on Second Street.

My heart sank.

Amazingly, the puppy lived through the accident and I called animal control. I knew right away that both his front legs had been broken and he was losing a lot of blood. He was transported to a local veterinarian to be treated. I couldn’t stop thinking about him and later called the veterinarian expected to be told that he had been euthanized.

To my surprise, the stray dog had survived and he was being treated. The veterinarian took my information and said they would call me with updates. A few hours later I called back. The veterinarian said the he had just been x-rayed and it appeared he didn’t have any life-threatening injuries.

I told the veterinarian that I wanted to help with any fundraising to help cover the cost of the dog’s medical expenses. A local, non-profit group called Montgomery County Friends of Animal Care & Control (MCFACC) stepped in to cover the bills. Together, MCFACC and I will work to raise funds to reimburse the group and help pay for the puppy’s future medical expenses.

Additionally, the group helps other animals in the area and I want to help them in any way I can.

On Tuesday, I visited with the puppy, which the veterinarian’s office had already named “Mikey.” I took a few pictures and spoke with the veterinarian about estimated costs for medical bills. I am now starting the fundraising process. The veterinarian estimated the medical bills could total up to $3,000. This doesn’t include future medical expenses. For now, our ChipIn page will not have a goal. Our goal is to raise as much money possible. Once we have a clear idea of how much we need, a goal will be posted.

Please, do all you can do to help Mikey and the MCFACC. I am not doing this for me, nor am I doing it because I want to feel better about the situation. I am doing this because it’s just the right thing to do. Thank you for reading and thank you for your continued support.

And now what?

Yesterday, my Mom and my Sister sat around the table with newspapers everywhere and lots of wierd stuff in little cups of stinky water and vinegar.     They were, of course, attempting to fool themselves, yet again, that they were going to create gorgeous Easter Eggs, much like Martha Stewart.

The end results were really not very nice looking at all.    Fortunately, Mr. Pat's Birthday is tomorrow, so Mom just finished turning the totally ugly eggs into something useful..... Deviled Eggs (yum).     Some of the dye jobs were so awful that the actual inside of the egg (which should have been white), have flecks of blue and green on them, so even as Deviled Eggs they look rather strange.    Taste good, just look a bit unusual.

So today, Mom swore that NEXT YEAR, they would have truly lovely Easter Eggs to show off and brag about to everyone and anyone who will listen.     Check this out:



In an effort that Mom says will no doubt take at least a year to pull off (considering all the practicing that they will probably need to do), Mom found us a really great place to visit and it is called Curbly and you can find lots of great ideas, including an actual video that teaches you how to make Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs.

I suggested that they just sit the bowl of hard bowled eggs onto the floor whereupon Smudgie, Willow, Rusty, Scarlett and I could just polish them off minus any kind of decoration whatsoever, but Mom says that her Bucket List includes a really beautiful dyed Easter Egg and she is going to pull this off if it's the last thing she does.

I hope that the rest of her list is more reasonable, cause believe me when I say that this years effort was really terrible and probably one of the ten worst years so far.

See why it is good to be a dog?      How many dogs do you know who worry about stuff like this?

Poop Positive

I'm sure that there are some people who get my Blogging but don't really believe me when I tell them about the Flying Monkeys, the Combat Squirrels and the Bears that live on our property.

Ha.

I have proof.

Not only did my sister, Lydia, have the sense to take the photo of the bear poop positive, but Mom thought it would be a good idea to place the sunglasses on the ground for size comparison. And just in case you want to know, the tiny brown specks are bird seed compliments of our neighbor Jim and his bird feeder. Prior to coming to our home and spreading garbage all over our lawn not to mention scaring poor Beijing Kitty so that she didn't leave the office for over 30 hours, the bear had been at Jim's house snacking on bird seed from the feeder.

I am telling you this bear is evil.

And furthermore, this is NOT what I wanted in my Easter Basket.

You can wake up your Mouse Person, if you can ever in a million years, find him, and ask him to tell you about Bears in Virginia, if you happen to live in the same State (Commonwealth) that I do, but I doubt you will ever be able to find him again.

Why do I say this?   My poor friend, Beijing Kitty, could not even be dragged out of the door to our office this morning.   Why?   THE BEAR WAS HERE LAST NIGHT!!!!

This is, of course, not, a video of our OUR bear, but it will give you an idea of our life her in the "wilds" of Virginia.
And people say that Pit Bulls are scary.

Here is what I woke up to.   Trash, everywhere! And I do mean everywhere.    All over our back yard.   Obviously our bear had decided to have a party last night and it dragged our trash everywhere it could.   Oh boy.

And poor Beijing Kitty.        We didn't know she was a "witness" to the entire incident (as she had been in our office all night), but obviously she watched the entire debacle and was scared out of her mind.      She has not left the safety of the "office building" today and she insisted on having breakfast served in bed.    Oh my.

I didn't hear a thing.    I guess I am a much better sleeper than Beijing.

Oh boy.

Now I am terrified.

I don't plan on going out at all if possible.

But that means???????     Where is the Easter Bunny?     Is he terrified of the Bear?   So does that mean I have no Easter Treats?

My life is hell.

Rusty has a friend?

I'm sure all of you know about my "bro" Rusty?   The dachshund?   He is the one who is constantly trying to attack me for absolutely no good reason in the world.    Yipes.     And I'm the one who gets the blame afterwards.

Mom says that she has a feeling that any dachshund worth it's fur is probably pretty fiesty, at least one time in it's life or another.    Our friend Ginger posted this picture of her Lucy to Facebook, and I snagged it to share with everyone.



Let me tell you, Lucy and Rusty have an awfully lot in common. For one thing, they both abide by the Dachshund Laws:



If you think for one little minute that I am kidding, I am not.     There isn't a chance that I would ever, in a million years, go near Rusty.      I tried it a few times and I got in trouble every single time.     Oh well. He has a cute face.

Dog Art Today

About a year ago, we switched around our computers and Mom and I got our own new e-mail address --- bloggingbob2007@gmail.com.

Remember you can always use that if you want to send me direct mails.     I love getting e-mail, snail mail and of course comments on my blogging.

In all of the confusion about our new "address" we forgot to update a couple of our very favorite blogs and so we have drifted away.   But now, we are back.

We have resubscribed to Dog Art Today and are anxious to spend some time catching up with our friend Ms. Moira McLaughlin.   Moira lost her wonderful dog, Darby on December 3, 2011 at the age of 17.    If Darby was anything at all like our boy, Rusty, then we know how sad Ms. Moira can be without him.

But she is moving along, as Darby would wish for her and in her recent blogging you can read about her quest to have a new best friend.       I'm not at all sure if we can have more than one FOREVER DOG..... and I think Darby was Moira's Forever Dog, but I do know that once those Forever Dogs get to The Rainbow Bridge, they have a lot of clout and can manulate the heck out of the system, so that suddently you find you are now the Mom to something wonderful and magical and just aren't sure how that happened.

                 This was Bosco.....now he has a new home, new name (Tyler) and a WHOLE NEW LIFE.

I look forward to keeping in touch with Tyler on a regular basis.      I think is Mom is one of the most talented artistic people I have ever known and even though I don't really "know" her, I am hopeful that someday we will meet in person and we can talk about Tyler/Bosco and PitBulls who should not be getting a Bad Rap.

Welcome Tyler......... you have found a very special home with Ms. Moira.

Must Love Cats

You all know how I feel about my BCFF (Best Cat Friend Forever) - Beijing Kitty.      I have totally forgiven her for holding me hostage in my crate for three days last year -----   we can't even remember what cause she was trying to get me to support at the time.      And yes, from time to time, she calls in her Flying Monkeys and Combat Squirrels and scares the heck out of me, but on the whole, life without Beijing would be totally uninteresting and very sad.      Mom says that cats have Nine Lives and that there is very little chance that I would ever be without Beijing in my life.



This is one of my very favorite photos of Beijing Kitty......... it is her EVIL KITTY photo graph and the one she likes to use when she wants people to know that she is really in charge around our home.   HA. Little chance that anyone who has ever met Beijing would think otherwise.

   Here is another of my favorite photos...... this was when my little "sister" Smudge, was just a puppy and trying to walk on top of Beijing who was laying in our driveway at the time and had no intention of moving.

So with all of this in mind, I found out about an Animal Planet show called Must Love Cats, and one of my Pit Bull Pals sent me the link to watch a video about how a pit bull named Karma learned to locate lost cats.

Find your Mouse Person and check out the video ....... and watch how Cheeto, the cat, trains dogs to find lost cats.   Of course, Karma is probably a lot smarter than the average dog, because she is a Pit Bull, but on the whole, I think that Cheeto is probably one smart kitty.

So Beijing and I have watched this video for several times and we think we could probably start a Lost Cat Service right here in our home town of Leesburg, Virginia.        And because Beijing Kitty has Flying Monkeys and Combat Squirrels already on her team, I'm betting we would be a huge success!
